March 19th sees the digital release of LEO ABRAHAMS? masterful Searching 1906.
An atmospheric ?mini? album, Searching 1906 was written as the soundtrack to a documentary directed by American photographer Kate Schermerhorn. The film traces the progress of celebrated author Simon Winchester as he travels America researching a book on the tragedy of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. An eccentric figure himself, Winchester seeks out a variety of unusual characters, and it is this eccentricity that is reflected in Leo?s music, in dexterous balance with a sense of melancholy Americana.
Influenced by Ry Cooder and Marc Ribot, these seven new pieces were written performed and recorded by Leo at his home studio using a simple palette of guitars, accordion, organ, percussion and guitaret ? a rare 1950s instrument similar in sound to a vibraphone which was given to him by Brian Eno.
In the words of Ed Harcourt ??Leo conjures up more pictures in his fingers than a painter ever could.?
