?Effortless vocals swirl around an ever serene piano... the touching courtship between piano and strings exemplifies Loner's songwriting skills perfectly? Clash Magazine
"Smith adept at creating that studied coolness" Sunday Times Culture
Loner, AKA Geoff Smith, cites his earliest musical influences as Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash - solitary artists who reflect their own stories through lyrical story telling, artists that bring you into their own world ? and their reflective style is evident in Western Sci-Fi. For Loner, his songs are a way to ?bring other people into the places I see, the things I need to talk about?.
A classical pianist since the age of 8 and tutored in New Orleans piano techniques in his teens, piano understandably makes up the backbone of his work. Yet electronic interference, fuzzy glitches, Binatone samples and some sparkling production underpin the organic qualities of piano and acoustic guitar. This has earned Loner a sound of his own which gently glides beneath the rush of modern life.

The cinematic sound of Loner?s songs has led to soundtrack placements for Sex In The City, One Tree Hill and many more.
