'Curious Liquid' defies musical convention, drawing on a wide and deep library of references from classical to funk, fusing rhythm and melody with deep felt emotion. Beautiful soaring melodies echo from stunning arrangements, all fusing seamlessly with chilling rhythms and laid back funky beats.
A diamond, simply outstanding. Relax, close eyes and enjoy a superb album. (9/10)
Most of the soporific melodies and flotation tank-beats on Curious Liquid are perfectly tailored to winding down, however Webb has thrown various curveballs into the mix - PIL guitars, Keith Jarrett-style pianos and Roxy Music soundscapes. He spent his formative years in Zambia and several of the tracks, most obviously Petouki, fuse ambient choirs with the hypnotic buzz of African rhythms. Ideal for people who like chill-out and those who usually don't (Three stars)
Every now and again it's great to throw on a chill-out album and float back to the beaches of Ibiza. Well this album will do just that (Album of the Week)
Super-chilled, a well conceived and cohesive collection of tracks that takes the chillout genre to a very lazy place indeed. Never before have I actually passed out reviewing an album, so that's a first and bears testimony to the album's flow, the incredibly relaxed feel of the tracks and the smooth and well balanced production in evidence throughout. Not to be listened to while operating heavy machinery (9/10)
Unremittingly tasteful, uplifting, mesmeric, memorable" (7/10)
Curious Liquid is not only a great album to chill to it is a completely eclectic mix of many styles. From the uptempo (ish) title track through to the deep sleep inducing 'Sleep Early Rise' this is a great way to kick back and dream of summer on those beaches in the Mediterranean
It's refreshing to hear this mellow collection of house tunes, crafted by Weatherman's very own hands. And, even though you won't have heard of any of these tracks [yet] they're likely to transport you into a state of bliss. This is all great stuff. No fillers, no droning, just an album's worth of beautifully melodic music (Four stars)
The music, like the life, feels a little mysterious, a little other worldly, a bit hippy and very suited to a slightly spooky night in Ibiza. (Three stars)
Curious Liquid is the brand new debut solo album by Weatherman. It's a chilled out atmospheric ambient kind of affair - so it may surprise you to learn that Weatherman is actually Laurant Webb, best known as a member of petal tech housers Wubble-U.
An artist and producer in his own right, Weatherman(aka Laurant Webb) has now drawn on music that stirs the emotions to create an ambient chillout album with a difference. Curious Liquid reaches into a myriad of musical genres and blends them together seamlessly
You know those tapes of dolphin sounds that therapists recommend to relax to? Well that's what this is like - only much better! (2/3)
Perfect for the winter chill, blends the mellow with the smooth, with a dash of samba and a touch of bass. If you're planning any horizontal engagements this month, then make Curious Liquid your tipple. Delicious
