Leo Abrahams - Honeytrap

Leo Abrahams
Honeytrap

Just Music, 2009

Melodic and atmospheric, this is a beautiful album of pure music which pushes the guitar to new levels of creativity.

Most of the pieces are just like songs, but with instruments taking the tunes instead of a voice. Stylistically there are elements of folk, ambience, classical, electronica and even world music, but its all tied together by the instrumentation and the melodies.

In keeping all the sounds real Leo has rejected conventional recording techniques like sampling, sequencing and computer effects, instead relying more on sounds generated by guitars, cellos, trumpets and ethnic percussion.

Reviews

'#4 in the 25 Essential Albums of 2005 list' Echoes

'Leo capture up more images through his fingers than any painter could' Ed Harcourt

'Undoubtedly one of the most versatile, creative and exciting musicians I've had the please to work with.' David Holmes

'A stunning instrumental album.'

'Honeytrap is a wonderfully ambient offering which soothes the soul.'

'It will bring you back time and again.'

'A stunning album that is more than capable of seducing the listener'

'Mellow and atmospheric. Quite beautiful. This album is full of emotional depth [and] lovely melodies.'

'Inspiring'

'Accomplished'

'Beautiful'

'The more you listen to the album, the more revelations you make to yourself. The album?s luxurious sound leaves you with no doubt that Leo Abrahams is a very talented musician.'

'What a lovely sleeve. It speaks of exotic, elegant opulence. And the music? Similarly luxurious. Clearly a very talented musician. The production is lush and crystal clear, the performances are precise and nuanced.'

'Superbly played.'

'Honeytrap is an exercise in incredible self-restraint and control. It is often beautiful, and rarely (if ever) self indulgent.'

'The spaces between the notes often have as much impact as the notes themselves.'

'The music is left to speak for itself, and it does so with heartfelt honesty and beauty throughout.'

'It's both touching and majestic. If it has a story to tell it's a quieter and more sentimental tale than that told by David Holmes' classics but the impact is almost as great - and that's one hell of a compliment.'

'Recommended.'

'Honeytrap is complex and gorgeous, wonderfully lulling and makes you crave more from this artist.'

'The delicately layered and sometimes energetic rhythms are sweet but not too rich for easy consumption.'

'This album is indeed very evocative and beautiful'

'Played at the right time with the right person it won't get any better than this'

'Unlike other such records, which tend to be a bit too ambient and background, the tone of Abrahams guitar playing keeps you coming back again.'

'Ultimately it's very clear that Mr Abrahams is very talented and deserves an audience for his work'

'Like a showcase for this remarkable guitarist's work, this 14 track album, although entirely original, has the air of the familiar about it. Phrases that conjure memories of past lives, like snapshots of classic movie moments'

'This is an album designed to display the art of writing music, this it achieves.'
